We were established in 2006, with the aim of providing high quality British Sign Language (BSL), Interpreting and Deaf Awareness training and consultative services. Like our sister company, the popular media production company AC2.com Productions set up in 2002, Actual Signs is an innovative organisation and we were the first Deaf-led company to set up the Signature accredited Interpreting NVQ course in London and Glasgow and successfully train groups of individuals to become registered interpreters via the NVQ route. Improving access to quality language services for the Deaf community is important to us and this was recognised when we were shortlisted for the Signature Organisational Achievement Award in 2009.
Actual Signs are committed to maintaining high standards and have the following policies in place:
While Actual Signs feels strongly about the above policies, they are not the only ones we adhere to. We are also committed to sustainability and the development of all our staff.
Our Director, Joel Kellhofer is a successful entrepreneur who knows no boundaries and is committed to being an inspiring leader for his field. Joel’s achievements are regularly acknowledged in the business world and he has triumphed at the Royal Bank of Scotland Best Young Business Awards, the Regional Final of the Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year and was also recognised for the Enterprising Young Brits Award. Joel skilfully manages his role of Director for Actual Signs and our sister company, AC2.com Productions to produce ground breaking results for all of his clients.
Our experienced team of tutors and assessors have been delivering BSL development training, NVQ Assessment Programmes and workshops for BSL and Interpreting learners and professionals for many years. Their areas of personal interest include linguistics, sociolinguistics, poetry and beyond! Active members of the Deaf community, in their uniquely informative and lively style, our staff encourage knowledge and idea sharing and provide a safe and friendly environment for all to ensure that our students achieve their goals.
Actual Signs is also privileged to work with an extensive network of over fifty freelance experts to offer exciting learning opportunities throughout the UK.
We also have a highly skilled office team who assist our Deaf staff members and ensure that a professional service with smooth flowing communication is delivered to each of our clients and students at all times.
Actual Signs believes in bringing deaf and hearing people together to create an environment where signing provides access for all. We continue to support the Deaf community through a range of sponsorship projects for organisations such as the British Deaf Association, Deaf Travel World, BBC See Hear, Glasgow Deaf Football Club, Deaffest, DeafJetSki, Deaf Sports Personality of the Year 2010 and the online, international directory for Deaf people, ASKDEAF.com. We have also worked with the Mayor of London’s Senior Policy Adviser and the Greater London Authority to produce exciting BSL media celebrating the annual BSL Recognition Day.
